The lead singer of the English pop group Erasure announced he was living with HIV in a December 2004 press release. Bell said he became aware of his status after suffering from pneumonia in 1998. “Being HIV-positive does not mean that you have AIDS,” he said. “My life expectancy should be the same as anyone else’s, so there’s no need to panic.” Bell confirmed that he was on antiretroviral combination therapy and feeling fine.
