Jerry Herman
The Broadway songwriter who wrote scores for Hello, Dolly!, Mame and La Cage aux Folles learned he was living with HIV in 1984. Herman had previously lost his partner to AIDS. In 1998, he confirmed that after undergoing experimental treatment, his viral load was undetectable. Now 85 years old, Herman has been a recipient of the Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre and the 2010 Kennedy Center Honors.
