Rudy Galindo
Galindo, who won the 1996 U.S. national figure skating championships, lost two coaches and a brother to AIDS. In April 2000, he told USA Today that he was HIV positive. He said he learned of his diagnosis a month earlier after being treated for pneumonia. Galindo is not sure when or how he contracted the virus but cites a period of drugs, alcohol and unsafe sex as the likely time during which he seroconverted. At the time, he said he was on treatment. He’s currently a skate coach in San Jose, California.
