In a surprise June turnaround, the Bush administration withdrew its threats of a lawsuit or sanctions against a heels-dug-in Brazil over the manufacture of generic AIDS meds. The two nations will establish a joint panel to evaluate patent cases that raise issues of intellectual property laws. Brazil also OK’d a plan to notify U.S. trade reps of any plan to exempt local makers from patent rights.
