4. HIV Treatment Gets Simpler
Although the first single-tablet regimen, Atripla (efavirenz/tenofovir disoproxil fumarate/emtricitabine), was approved in 2006, all-in-one regimens really took off during the past decade. Now there are a dozen single-tablet regimens, and most people starting HIV treatment—as well as many old-timers—can keep their virus under control with just one pill taken once daily. Another step toward simpler treatment: the debut of Juluca (dolutegravir/rilpivirine) and Dovato (dolutegravir/lamivudine), dual regimens that contain just two antiretrovirals.
