Dedication of the AIDS Memorial Pathway

The dedication of The AMP: AIDS Memorial Pathway, a Seattle-based public arts installation designed to take visitors through an emotional and historic journey related to the AIDS epidemic in Washington state, will be held on Saturday, June 26. The public is invited to stop by between 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the plaza adjacent to Cal Anderson Park. During the public dedication the community is invited to sign a large red ribbon memorializing a loved one, share a message or sign their name to be a part of this special day in Seattle history. The ribbon will eventually be a part of the AIDS Memorial Quilt.

This project has been in development since 2015. A passionate group of volunteers and community leaders, including people living with HIV, people of color and LGBTQIA+ people, came together with a vision of using public art to create a physical place for reflection and rememberance, using technology to share stories of the epidemic, and providing a call to action to end HIV/AIDS, stigma and discrimination.

Those interested in experiencing The AMP from home can watch videos from community members on how the HIV/AIDS epidemic impacted their lives, available on the The AMP website. The AMP accepts short, self-made videos for consideration on an ongoing basis, becoming a digital component of the memorial.
