The Afiya Center (TAC) understands that the reproductive justice framework is a platform to create advocacy that is informed, self-actualized, and protects women’s reproductive health, rights, and justice. TAC also recognizes that adequately advocating for Black women’s comprehensive health includes ensuring access to all reproductive healthcare, including abortion care. Texas has become a high-profile battleground for reproductive rights, from Wendy Davis' filibuster to the recent Supreme Court victory striking down a state law that would have devastated women's health care access. In the midst of these public struggles, rarely do we hear the voices and demands of those often most impacted by anti-choice legislation: Texas Black women.
The Afiya Center's mission is to end reproductive oppression and encourage women to take ownership of their reproductive health by transforming the management of their health to one that increases self-efficacy, and promotes wholeness.
