Planned Parenthood asked NMAC to gather signatures for a sign-on letter from the HIV community in support of their important work. Please read the letter and sign-on by March 24, 2017. Show your support of National Women and Girls HIV Awareness Day by standing with Planned Parenthood.
Over the past decade we have made amazing gains in the battle against HIV in women and girls. Between 2005 to 2014, the number of new diagnoses among women declined by 40%. Unfortunately Black Women and Latinas continue to be disproportionately impacted. At the end of 2014, Black Women were 61% and Latinas were 17% of all women living with HIV in the US.
NMAC is proud to stand with our partner and ally Planned Parenthood, a key provider of comprehensive health services for women. In addition to health care, Planned Parenthood also provides HIV/STI education, prevention, testing, and linkages to care. In 2014 alone, Planned Parenthood provided over 650,000 HIV tests. Increasingly, their centers are a source of comprehensive HIV prevention, including counseling and innovative prevention options like pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).
On this National Women and Girl’s HIV Awareness Day, stand with Planned Parenthood. Tell Congress to continue to fund their important work. We are stronger together. Thank you for everything that you do to end the epidemic, now I need you to stand-up for our friends as you know they will stand up for us.
Yours in the struggle,
Paul Kawata
Executive Director
