“I am interested in 2 things: paying my mortgage and promoting HIV education and awareness. If ”fame“ helps me do that then there you go. As far as the new TV show is concerned?they came to me. It may happen, it may not. I’m just promoting it when I can because having a job in this economy is always a perk...Be good to each other.”
Jack Mackenroth’s response to a Queerty blog regarding his involvement with Condom Couture Fashion Show for Project Inform. Touché Mr. Mackenroth, I couldn’t have say it better myself. Whether it?s presidential candidates or bitchy vindictive fags, NOBODY likes a bully! Look at how far the fashion industry has come regarding HIV/AIDS, in 1986 Perry Ellis died of so call ?lung cancer,? and now, unfortunately 20 years later, the fashion community had a proud and loud HIV+ survivor, who?s active in the community while still designing. (Please note: I am NOT comparing Jack’s designs to Perry Ellis, let’s just get that straight!) Jack Mackenroth is hosting the event in San Francisco this very evening, also designing the wedding dress finale, and that’s why he’s did getting a lot of the attention: blogs, press releases, etc.
Since I am a blogger, of course I have my own opinion in respect to the frocks. The condom-balloon dress conceived by an Academy of Art student (why unnamed?) scored the highest on Dave’s chart. I can’t contain my love of whimsy! High praise for the spaghetti-strap, empire waist full length evening gown, with it shirt blossoming into amber-colored condoms by Catherine Jane, and the hooded, wrap-around dress with takes deconstructing the figure to a whole other level. You know some Harajuku girl is going to wear that thing right off the runway!!! These are only sketches, it’s more about execution, and most importantly, how the model presents the dress. As RuPaul raps, ?Sell the garment!?
For those going to the show tonight in SF, enjoy yourselves, I’m be glued to the TV watching the bullying during the presidental debate tonight. Remember give Jack a break, and STAY UNITED AGAINST AIDS!
May your glass be half full,
