The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) granted $5 million to a partnership between the Indiana University School of Medicine and a medical school and hospital in Kenya to bolster access to HIV treatment in the sub-Saharan African country, the Chicago Tribune reports.

The IU Medical School joined with Kenya’s Moi University School of Medicine and the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kenya in 2007 to establish a health care access program. That same year, the joint initiative received a $60 million USAID grant to prevent and treat HIV/AIDS in western Kenya. Today, more than 100,000 Kenyans receive treatment through the program’s 23 full-time clinics and 23 satellite locations.

This new USAID funding—coupled with private funding—will expand the program’s network of clinics.
