Meanwhile, on the West Coast, organizers of the annual AIDS/LifeCycle ride, in which cyclists pedal from San Francisco to Los Angeles, announced that the June 2025 event will be its final trek.

“We have made the difficult decision that 2025 will be the last year of AIDS/LifeCycle,” reads an announcement on AIDSLifeCycle.org. “This decision was not arrived at easily or hastily. It has become clear that it is no longer financially sustainable for us to produce the Ride due to skyrocketing production costs, which have been exacerbated by year-after-year declines in ridership and fundraising. The Ride has been a significant part of so many of our lives, connected to those we’ve lost, those who live and the incredible, beautiful community that we’ve helped to create.”

“Funds from this event helped change the trajectory of the AIDS epidemic,” Los Angeles LGBT Center CEO Joe Hollendoner told The Bay Area Reporter. “No longer is HIV the death sentence it was when the ride began thanks to the advancement in treatments, and new cases of HIV are declining thanks to interventions like PrEP [pre-exposure prophylaxis].”

For more information, watch the announcement and Q&A session about the ride’s end.

To all our returning riders – this one’s for YOU!  You’ve conquered miles, built lifelong bonds, and made an impact that’s bigger than the road. This last year of AIDS/LifeCycle is going to mean the world, and YOU belong here for every unforgettable moment. Let’s make it the best ride yet, from the starting line to the finish!  #YouBelongHere #AIDSLifeCycle #Final545
