Last year, the Positively Trans (T+) project at the Transgender Law Center launched an online poll to assess the experiences of trans people with HIV across the nation, and the results are in! The first report, “Positively Trans,” which focuses on advocacy and health, reveals stark findings: 43 percent of respondents earn less than $12,000 a year, and 41 percent had some history of incarceration.
Top health concerns included gender-affirming health care, hormone therapy, mental health care, trauma recovery and HIV meds. And the main legal priorities that came up were HIV discrimination, identity documents, housing, public accommodation and employment discrimination.
Results of the survey will be used to create similar reports in the future, which will focus on stigma, substance abuse and other important topics. And for a personal touch, don’t miss the Positively Trans video series on black transgender women living with HIV in the South.
