Ron Smolkin, a New York City public school principal, is under investigation for allegedly attempting to smear one of his school teachers, Michael McPherrin, by saying he has AIDS, NY1 reports. A letter sent to the managers of McPherrin’s co-op accuses him and his partner, Andre Lopes, of having AIDS, abusing drugs and being pedophiles. The writer of the anonymous letter claimed to represent concerned residents, but the building management dismissed the letter as hate mail. A handwriting analysis of samples McPherrin said belonged to Smolkin found it “highly likely” they matched the anonymous letter. The Manhattan district attorney’s office, the State Human Rights Commission and the teachers union are all investigating.
