AIDS.gov launched an HIV digital project called “Positive Spin” that features storytelling videos of five gay black men living with the virus, including POZ blogger Guy Anthony.
The aim of the project is to raise awareness of five stages of the HIV care continuum: (1) Know your status; (2) Connect to care; (3) Start HIV treatment; (4) Stay in care; and (5) Keep the virus under control.
In addition to videos of each of the five men, the website includes information and resources on getting testing, understanding the window period, and connecting to care.
The Positive Spin project is an outgrowth of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy and the 2013 executive order establishing the HIV Care Continuum Initiative. According to the website, “AIDS.gov developed Positive Spin to continue to raise awareness and understanding of the HIV care continuum. Given the disproportionate impact of HIV on young Black gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (MSM) and our ongoing commitment to using new media tools in HIV efforts, we developed this tool to feature the personal stories of black MSM who have successfully navigated the continuum from initial diagnosis to achieving viral suppression as a way to explain what the HIV care continuum is and demonstrate its importance.”
