United Nations secretary-general Ban Ki-moon has appointed Luiz Loures, MD, as the new deputy executive director of programme at the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), according to a UNAIDS statement. Since joining UNAIDS in 1996, Loures has held several roles at the agency. Before UNAIDS, Loures was a special advisor on AIDS to the health ministry in Brazil. He assumes his new role January 1, 2013. Paul De Lay, the current deputy executive director, will retire December 31.
