After being accused of overcharging for HIV drugs on the federal marketplace in Florida, health insurance company Humana has agreed to lower those costs, the Tampa Bay Times reports.
The agreement was reached with the Florida Office of Health Insurance Regulation. It follows an investigation into four insurance companies—Humana, Cigna, Coventry Health Care and Preferred Medical—after advocate groups including the AIDS Institute alleged they discriminated against people with HIV by placing routine HIV medications in Obamacare plans that would garner the greatest out-of-pocket costs.
According to the article, the Humana agreement will lower patient cost-sharing of HIV meds from 50 percent to 10 percent co-insurance for the most expensive meds; for drugs that cost less than $600, the cost to patients will drop from a 50 percent co-insurance to a $50 co-pay.
Cigna and Coventry also reached cost-lowering agreements with state officials.
