Hip-hop artists such as Mike Jones, David Banner and Day26 rallied in Dallas to promote HIV/AIDS awareness at a concert, The Dallas Morning News reports.
The local initiative, called Hip Hop for HIV, had a successful turnout, said Taryn Brown, a Dallas city spokeswoman. More than 3,000 people got tested for HIV. In return, participants received free concert tickets.
Ed Jones, a behavior modification specialist with the charity AIDS Arms Inc., helped set up the four major testing sites and 12 smaller sites. “We want to test across the board,” Jones said. “We don’t just want to reach out to the African-American and Hispanic communities, but to everyone.”
