Evan Low, the gay Asian-American mayor of Campbell, California, is seeking to end the U.S. gay blood ban. After hosting a blood drive on city property but being banned from donating his own blood, Low created an online petition. He asks the Department of Health and Human Services to reevaluate the Food and Drug Administration’s current lifetime ban on gay men from donating blood. The petition points out that the American Medical Association and the American Red Cross both support such a reevaluation.
