The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) held a roundtable and a reception in Washington, DC, Tuesday, June 24, to commemorate its 25th anniversary, according to an EGPAF statement. Health, government and nonprofit experts attended the roundtable, which was held at the Pew Charitable Trusts. The reception was held at the Newseum.

The roundtable included Ambassador Deborah Birx, MD, the U.S. global AIDS coordinator; Rajiv Shah, MD, administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID); and Deborah Persaud, MD, of the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. Michael Gerson, op-ed columnist for The Washington Post, moderated the roundtable.

Other speakers included Shaffiq Essajee, MD, of the Clinton Health Access Initiative; José G. Esparza Bracho, MD, PhD, of the University of Maryland; Lynee Mofeson, MD, of the National Institute of Child Health; Douglas F. Nixon, MD, PhD, of George Washington University; Peter McDermott, of the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation; and Gwynn Stevens, PhD, of Cepheid.

At the reception, Chip Lyons, EGPAF president and CEO, honored U.S. Representative Nancy Pelosi (D–Calif.), the minority leader of the House, with its Congressional Global Champion Award. EGPAF works to advance HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment for women, children and families in 15 countries and supports research against the virus.
