In what is probably the biggest celebrity HIV disclosure story since Magic Johnson, actor Charlie Sheen acknowledged in a November Today interview that he is living with the virus. As when actor Danny Pintauro told Oprah he was HIV positive two months earlier, the resulting news coverage was met with mixed reactions in the HIV community. While generally supportive, advocates questioned whether either man was an ideal spokesperson. One thing’s for sure: Sheen and Pintauro put HIV back in the headlines. As for the rest, we’ll have to stay tuned.
