Canadian Blood Services has modified its lifetime ban on blood donations from gay men, The Canadian Press reports. The agency will permit gay men who haven’t had sex with another man for five years to donate blood. Advocates have welcomed the change, but they also insist that the five-year deferral is still too long and discriminates against gay men. The new policy is expected to be implemented this summer.
