Only one in every 200, or 0.5 percent, of blood packs in the Philippines donated to department of health blood banks and the Red Cross tested positive for HIV in June, ABS-CBN News reports. Eric Tayag, chief of the National Epidemiology Center, made this clarification after media reports claimed that 27 percent of blood donations in June were HIV positive. Red Cross officials said the number of blood units with HIV should not discourage people from donating.
