The two newest additions to the Barbie Collector Elizabeth Taylor series are so stunning, they’ll almost make you forget the Lifetime movie Liz & Dick with Lindsay Lohan. Designer Robert Best, of Project Runway fame, worked with Barbie-maker Mattel to create the limited-edition Elizabeth Taylor Violet Eyes and White Diamonds dolls ($125 each). While channeling the icon’s sexy Hollywood glamour, Best updates both looks with an accessory the star wouldn’t be seen without: a red AIDS ribbon.
A staunch and powerful voice for those with HIV, Dame Elizabeth cofounded amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, and also started The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation (ETAF). To honor the star’s legendary philanthropy, Mattel, which worked with Taylor in 2001 for three earlier dolls (none wore red ribbons), has made a contribution to the ETAF. That’s nice, but how about also donating a sizable portion of each sale to AIDS?
