Overwhelmed AIDS paperpushers, take note. A management-consulting firm in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin has designed a software program for AIDS service organizations (ASOs). Groupware Technologies created Provide to help the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin (ARCW) streamline the coordination of medical, food and social services for its 900 clients. “Even in a small city like Milwaukee there are 250 programs case managers need to know about,” said Bret Ballinger, the firm’s president.
Unlike the cumbersome government-issue software long used by many ASOs, Provide automates routine activities such as daily scheduling, eligibility screening and referral generation, and offers the ability to create and maintain databases. “With a single keystroke you can find out who’s eligible for which services in the community,” said ARCW’s Paul Milakovich. “When you enter a client’s data, the computer immediately lets you know what the client’s eligible for.” Groupware is marketing the software to 2,500 ASOs nationwide at a cost of $900 per caseworker.
