Experts fear that the ouster of the Taliban has created an HIV time bomb in Pakistan. The return of poppy farms in Afghanistan is fueling heroin addiction in Lahore and other cities. HIV docs warn that the scarcity of clean needles, combined with high illiteracy, will tip Pakistan’s relatively small HIV caseload, about 200,000 in a country of 140 million, toward an epidemic.
