HIV-positive residents of tribal areas in Pakistan are finding it harder to access antiretroviral (ARV) treatment, the Inter Press Service (IPS) reports. To get their meds at a treatment center in Peshawar, people with HIV in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas have to cross into Afghanistan on a dangerous route before crossing back into Pakistan. HIV is spreading throughout the region in large part because of intravenous drug use and sharing needles, lack of screening in blood banks and dentists who use unsterilized equipment.
