My biggest HIV complaint is peripheral neuropathy, a side effect of d4T (Zerit). It leaves some parts of my feet feeling like they’re wet and smothered in a tight bandage, and other parts, like the soles, totally numb. This affects my posture, my back and how I walk. As a teacher, I’m on my feet all day long in the classroom, plus walking my dog for an hour in the park. My sole mate? Dr. Scholl’s Massaging Gel Insoles, which I put in every shoe I wear—sneakers, boots, loafers. They’re cushy and comfortable and let me stand much longer. They’re more expensive than regular insoles, but well worth it—and a pair lasts for six months of relief.
