New York City doctor has been convicted of scammingMedicaid out of $700,000 by prescribing HIV meds for people who did not havethe virus, The Associated Press (AP) reports. Suresh Hemrajani, MD, wassentenced to two to six years behind bars for charges that include grandlarceny. The Manhattan District Attorney’s office said Hemrajani billedMedicaid for treatment he didn’t actually provide and prescribed HIVmedications without determining whether the patients were positive. Thepatients then traded drugs for cash from middlemen. Thirty patients have beencriminally charged.
