A new report reveals that in 2010 there were 27 murders of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people and HIV-affected people in the United States, according to a National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs (NCAVP) statement. This marks an increase from 22 murders in 2009; overall hate violence against these minority groups increased 13 percent from 2009 to 2010. Hate Violence Against Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and HIV-Affected Communities in the United States in 2010 also reveals that 70 percent of those murder victims were people of color and 44 percent were transgender women. The report recommends an increase in funds for anti-violence programs.
