The International AIDS Society (IAS) has named Elly Katabira, MD, its new president and Francoise Barre-Sinoussi, PhD, as president-elect, according to an IAS statement. Katabira, a professor of medicine at Makerere University in Uganda, becomes the first African to hold the position. Barre-Sinoussi, a Nobel Laureate of Medicine and a member of the French Academy of Science, will become IAS president in July 2012.
