The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has granted more than $26 million to a research group led by Emory University in Atlanta to develop an HIV/AIDS vaccine, according to an Emory University Woodruff Health Sciences Center statement. The five-year grant will fund the AIDS Vaccine Research in Nonhuman Primates program, which will primarily study the simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV). The consortium’s work will add to the moderately successful 2009 Thailand vaccine trial (RV144).
