Many African immigrants are afraid to discuss HIV for fear of stigma and discrimination. To start a dialogue about the virus, The Center for Multicultural Health in Seattle is recruiting African immigrants to serve as HIV/AIDS peer educators among fellow Africans in the community, The Seattle Times reports. The peer educators distribute prevention information and condoms and discuss the importance of HIV testing. Foreign-born black female immigrants in Seattle account for nearly half of all HIV cases in the city.
