It’s an extra joyous time of year for 11 HIV organizations in Florida, thanks to The Campbell Foundation, which gifted them a total of $25,000 in Holiday Hugs—donations the groups can use as they see fit.

What’s more, according to a Campbell Foundation press release, some of the gifts will be matched by funds raised during the Florida AIDS Walk.

The 11 groups receiving Holiday Hugs are:

  • A.H. of Monroe County
  • Broward House
  • Care Resource
  • Children’s Diagnostic and Treatment Center
  • Comprehensive Care Clinic/Broward Health
  • FoundCare
  • Latinos Salud
  • Legal Aid of Broward County
  • McGregor Clinic
  • Poverello Center
  • SunServe.

“With the Campbell Foundation’s support, we can take our outreach van out to more locations, conduct more special events and generally help more community members stay safe from, or live healthier with, HIV,” said Latinos Salud’s executive director Stephen Fallon. The group has locations in Miami, Miami Beach and Wilton Manors.

At A.H. of Monroe County, the funding will help provide 100 clients with a $25 food voucher. Other groups use the funds for medications, access to care, emergency assistance and other needs.

Based in Florida, The Campbell Foundation, which will celebrate its 25th anniversary in February, aims to support nontraditional, laboratory-based HIV cure research.

“As we know, cure research is ongoing, and often we don’t hear about results for months and sometimes years. Giving out our Holiday Hugs each year lets us see the tangible difference that can be made in a short period of time,” said Ken Rapkin, executive director of The Campbell Foundation.

Since it was established, the foundation has awarded more than $11 million, of which $1.3 million has benefited direct services. It has been giving out Holiday Hugs to HIV organizations helping Floridians since 1996.
