The Indian government is seeking expert opinions on a bill to make pre-marital HIV testing mandatory, Gulf News reports. The People’s Health Organization, an AIDS nonprofit, is recommending that in addition to testing for HIV that the government should require a comprehensive pre-marital health check-up to screen for hereditary diseases and other sexually transmitted infections. The goal is to protect both partners, but especially women, who unknowingly marry men with HIV and don’t know they should protect themselves.
