“HIV Treatment Works” is a new awareness campaign from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The campaign promotes the benefits of care and treatment for people living with the virus and seeks to get more of them in care and on treatment. It is the latest campaign in the CDC Act Against AIDS initiative.
In addition to helping people with HIV/AIDS to live longer, treatment also helps to prevent the spread of the virus.
More than a million people in the United States have HIV, but only about a quarter of them have an undetectable viral load. Being undetectable gives the most health benefits and is a must for treatment as prevention.
The campaign was developed with input from more than 100 HIV-positive people. It includes personal stories and provides advice for other people living with the virus.
The campaign is online, in print, on television and on billboards, as well as social media. It is being rolled out at events in Atlanta, Miami and Washington, DC.
