Advocates claim that Washington, DC, has fallen behind in its HIV/AIDS efforts for the first time in six years, The Washington Post reports. The DC Appleseed Center for Law has published a “report card” on the city’s HIV/AIDS performance every year since 2005. The latest report card gives reduced grades to mayoral leadership, needle exchange, grants to HIV/AIDS groups, and efforts to track the epidemic. Although Mayor Vincent C. Gray has taken steps to address the situation, such as appointing a new HIV/AIDS commission, Appleseed has called on him to use the media to campaign for stronger measures.
