Erin Bouquin, chief medical officer for the New Mexico Department of Health, claims she was asked to resign after she gave a TV interview in which she advised teens to use condoms to prevent sexually transmitted infections, The Associated Press (AP) reports. Bouquin alleges that this is part of increased politicization of the department, citing an application for federal funding focused on abstinence-only sex education. The governor’s office and the health department both deny that Bouquin’s departure is related to the interview. Bouquin had been on the job only four months and was still on probation.
