Bill Would Revise Washington State HIV Criminal Law
A bill in the Washington State House of Representatives would revise current law that criminalizes intentionally transmitting HIV, Bonney Lake & Sumner Courier-Herald reports. The bill would replace language referencing HIV in current law with a more general definition of a communicable disease. The bill also would change the legal definition of poison to include fluids containing a disease that usually results in serious harm or death if left untreated. This change still includes HIV. Representative Jim Moeller (D–Vancouver) is the sole sponsor of HB 1018.
