UNAIDS Executive Director Speaks at Vatican Conference
Michel Sidibe, executive director of UNAIDS, told a Vatican conference that comments made by Pope Benedict XVI on condoms and HIV prevention had “opened up a new space for dialogue,” The Associated Press (AP) reports. Sidibe was invited to speak at the conference, which was sponsored by the Pontifical Council for Health Care Workers. The Catholic Church cares for millions of HIV-positive people worldwide, especially in Africa. Previously, Sidibe has said the HIV/AIDS community and the Catholic Church were “talking over” one another and often worked in opposition.
