South Carolina, the last state that segregated HIV-positive prisoners, has voluntarily eliminated that policy, according to an ACLU blog post. By 1985, 46 of 51 prison systems in the United States segregated prisoners with HIV. However, only three states continued that policy by 2005. Mississippi stopped in 2010. A federal court made Alabama stop in 2012, which advocates say prompted this decision by South Carolina.
