Nigeria’s Anglican Church is implementing a program to encourage couples to take an HIV test before getting married. The Church will not prevent a marriage if a test comes back positive; officials say the idea is to help couples make informed choices before committing.
The new Church policy has been met by criticism from Nigerian government health officials, who fear that people may be forced into getting tests.
About 4.4 percent of Nigerians are living with HIV.
