Most young gay men in Mexico City would promise to stay HIV negative in return for $288 a year, according to a study published in The European Journal of Health Economics and reported by The New York Times. The men also would attend a monthly safer sex discussion and take HIV tests regularly. The study also found that most male sex workers would make the same pledge for $156 a year. The authors say their study is the first to identify a specific dollar value to get high participation in such a program. Several countries have tried similar programs to pay people for good health behavior.
