A gay Jamaican who appears in a television ad calling on his fellow citizens to support LGBTs is taking two major television stations in the country to court for breaching his constitutional rights, according to a statement by AIDS-Free World. By not airing the “Love and Respect” paid ad, Maurice Tomlinson, an attorney and a legal advisor on marginalized groups to AIDS-Free World, claims CVM TV and TVJ are succumbing to increasing pressure from conservative religious leaders. In 2010, both TV stations ran paid ads supporting LGBTs, emphasizing how homophobia drives people underground and away from HIV prevention and treatment.
