Bills Introduced in Congress Would Change U.S. Marijuana Laws
Two bills introduced in Congress would regulate and tax marijuana, The Associated Press (AP) reports. The bills by U.S. Representatives Jared Polis (D–Colo.) and Earl Blumenauer (D–Ore.) are among several others being worked on by lawmakers of both major parties to change marijuana laws. The Polis bill would allow the federal government to regulate marijuana similarly to alcohol. The Blumenauer bill would create a federal excise tax on marijuana; it would also tax producers, importers and other businesses related to marijuana.
