Liberace AIDS Film Gets 11 Emmy Awards
The HBO film Behind the Candelabra has received 11 Emmy Awards, the Los Angeles Times reports. The movie won eight trophies at the Creative Arts Emmys and three more during the nationally broadcast awards show, including outstanding movie or miniseries, outstanding directing for Steven Soderbergh and outstanding lead actor in a movie or miniseries for Michael Douglas, who played Liberace. The film depicts the life and death of the gay pianist and his love affair with a younger man named Scott Thorson, played by Matt Damon. Liberace died of AIDS-related complications in 1987.
