In 2014, HBO will air a film adaptation of The Normal Heart, a play by Larry Kramer set in New York City at the beginning of the AIDS epidemic, The Huffington Post reports. Julia Roberts is the latest cast member to join the lineup, which includes Mark Ruffalo and Matt Bomer. Roberts will portray Emma Brookner, the paraplegic physician who treats the earliest patients. Ruffalo will play the protagonist Ned Weeks, and Bomer takes on the role of Felix Turner, who becomes Weeks’s boyfriend. After making its off-Broadway debut in 1985, the play won Best Revival of a Play at the 2011 Tony Awards.
