Advocates are concerned over an HIV alert posted on the Georgia Southern University website that was later removed, The American Independent reports. The alert warned students that a “dominant” black man was “intentionally” transmitting HIV. In a statement issued with the alert, the dean of students said the university received an anonymous report that it determined to be “a credible threat.” The school seems to have changed its mind because it later removed the alert. A university spokesperson would not answer why it was removed or how the university determined the threat was credible. A spokesperson for the state health department said it did not issue the alert. Police have not identified any suspects. Advocates believe the alert stigmatizes people with HIV.
