Gay Inc. Winning on Marriage, Losing on HIV/AIDS

HIV/AIDS is not a top priority for major nationwide LGBT groups, a.k.a. Gay Inc., according to U.S. News & World Report. The Human Rights Campaign, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation and the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force have all used substantial resources to advocate for marriage equality but have put very little resources to fight the virus, despite its highly disproportionate impact among LGBTs. In a recent Washington Post op-ed, Peter Staley estimates that Gay Inc. spends less than 1 percent of its resources on HIV/AIDS and suggests the groups allocate 10 percent to the fight against the virus.

I am all for Marriage Equality but if we forget about the fight against HIV/AIDS young people run the risk of contracting HIV and possibly not knowing they have it and then sooner or later Til Death Do Us Part becomes more of a reality...who wants that?

Gay Inc. is made up of a different breed of gay. They're less promiscuous, don't watch as much porn, are not into drugs, want to settle down and live a boring family life, which is fine and all, but they generally don't aquire HIV because they are so "boring" and neither do their friends so it doesn't impact their lives... many of these gays have kids... they're not dealing with HIV. I'm being overly broad obviously, but there's truth to what I'm saying.

These are civil rights groups. HIV is a disease, what do you expect them to do? discover a new drug? They are doing what they are supposed to be do.
