HIV/AIDS is not a top priority for major nationwide LGBT groups, a.k.a. Gay Inc., according to U.S. News & World Report. The Human Rights Campaign, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation and the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force have all used substantial resources to advocate for marriage equality but have put very little resources to fight the virus, despite its highly disproportionate impact among LGBTs. In a recent Washington Post op-ed, Peter Staley estimates that Gay Inc. spends less than 1 percent of its resources on HIV/AIDS and suggests the groups allocate 10 percent to the fight against the virus.
