The AIDS Resource Council (ARC) in Fort Myers, Florida, which served about 250 HIV-positive clients, has closed, news-press.com reports. Local groups have taken in some former ARC patients, but most of them are still not connected to a new clinic. Many former clients are homeless and uninsured or covered by Medicaid, which isn’t accepted by many private physicians. Some of the controversy surrounding the closure includes claims of not giving enough notice to clients and varying accounts of why ARC finances were in such bad shape.
